Brandon Frankel, husband of actress Gabourey Sidibe, received a heartfelt gift on Father’s Day: permission to share his favorite photo of his wife. On Sunday, June 15, Frankel posted a series of pictures on Instagram showing Sidibe, 42, and their twin children, Cooper and Maya, shortly after their birth more than a year ago.
In the first image, Sidibe appears stunned as she sits in a hospital bed holding her newborns, one in each arm. Frankel explained in the caption that the photo captured a moment when Sidibe, under the effects of morphine, was in disbelief after giving birth to twins. He described it as the funniest picture he had ever taken and praised her shocked expression.
He acknowledged that although the day was meant to celebrate fathers, he could not overlook the role Sidibe played during her pregnancy. He thanked her for enduring nine challenging months and for bringing their children into the world, adding that his life changed completely on that day and he remained deeply grateful.
Frankel went on to express his appreciation for Sidibe, saying he was proud to be both her husband and the father of their children. In April, he revealed a tattoo on his forearm bearing the names of their twins, Cooper and Maya, in blue-black ink. Alongside photos of himself with the tattoo near the children, he wrote that he had wanted to get the tattoo since their birth and finally made the decision to do so. He said the twins deserved a permanent place on his body, joining the people who mattered most to him.
The month before, the couple celebrated the twins’ first birthday. Frankel posted several photos with the children and shared a touching message. He wrote that he could not believe a full year had passed and said Cooper and Maya made both him and Sidibe proud every day. He described the twins as funny, sweet, and well-behaved.
Frankel reflected on the past year, saying it had been an honor to watch the twins grow and develop. He noted their many milestones, from walking and talking to dancing, hugging, and eating solid food. He ended the message by saying that being their parents was a joy and that he looked forward to all the moments still to come.
