The estate of Katherine and Walter McCombs has donated nearly \$15 million to Cleveland State University (CSU). Walter McCombs, a 1976 graduate of CSU’s College of Law, received the only scholarship offer from CSU when he applied.
Part of the donation will go to the Walter Lee McCombs Endowed Scholarship Fund, which supports law students. The majority of the gift will create the Katherine F. McCombs and Walter Lee McCombs Transformative Impact Fund. This fund will help CSU assist students with tuition, room and board, and other expenses.
CSU President Bloomberg called the gift “an extraordinary moment in Cleveland State’s history.” He said the donation honors Walter McCombs’s connection to the university and will help many students with financial need stay focused on their studies.
In recognition of the gift, CSU will renovate the outdoor plaza between the Student Center and Rhodes Tower. The plaza will be named the McCombs Family Plaza to honor the generosity of the McCombs family.
