On Sunday, June 15, Riley Hawk, son of retired pro skateboarder Tony Hawk, celebrated his first Father’s Day since becoming a parent. Riley, 31, and his wife, Frances Bean Cobain, welcomed their son, Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk, in September 2024.
Frances Bean, daughter of Courtney Love and the late Kurt Cobain, marked the occasion by posting a tribute to her husband on Instagram. In her message, she thanked Riley for his dedication to their family, writing, “Happy Father’s Day @rileyhawk. All the ways you show up for our son are such a gift! We’re eternally grateful that you exist as you are.”
The couple announced Ronin’s birth on social media on September 17, 2024. Frances shared a series of photos that included images of the newborn and a picture of Riley holding his son. “Welcome to the world most beautiful son. We love you more than anything,” she wrote at the time.
Tony Hawk joined in celebrating the new addition, commenting humorously on the birth announcement by calling Ronin his “favorite grandson.” The skateboarding legend later shared with People magazine how proud he is of Riley. He described watching his son embrace fatherhood as a joyful and meaningful experience, saying, “You can tell that it gives him the most joy, and so if anything, that makes me very proud.”
Tony also spoke about his own role as a grandfather, describing it as a source of great happiness. “I understand why people gush about being grandparents. It’s probably the most fun you can have,” he said. Tony noted that Ronin enjoys visiting his home and sees it as a place to have fun with fewer rules.
Although Ronin has already had the chance to ride on his grandfather’s skateboard, Tony shared that his grandson doesn’t yet own a board. “If he really likes it, he can just have that one that he’s riding, which would’ve been mine,” Tony said. “Once he starts to talk, and if he requests it, then that’ll be it.”
