President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that Ukraine will move its Children’s Protection Day from June 1 to November 20. He explained that this change aligns Ukraine with the global observance of Universal Children’s Day.
“For a long time, Children’s Protection Day was celebrated on June 1 in Ukraine, mostly out of habit rather than intention,” Zelenskyy said. “More organizations and schools have started recognizing Universal Children’s Day in the fall on November 20. I signed a decree to follow this global practice.”
The president noted that November 20 marks the adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959 and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989. He also announced the launch of a new award called Maibutnie Ukraiiny (The Future of Ukraine).
“My wife Olena and I will present this award next week to brave children who helped save lives and showed great resilience. We will thank them personally on behalf of all Ukrainians and make this award a new tradition,” Zelenskyy said.
The decree makes November 20 the official day for Children’s Protection in Ukraine, replacing the previous date of June 1.
