On June 1, Ukrainian communities across the globe held rallies to mark International Children’s Day, drawing attention to the plight of Ukrainian children affected by the ongoing war. The events were organized under the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) campaign #StandWithUkrainianChildren, aimed at protecting the future of Ukraine’s youngest generation.
In Paris, Ukrainians gathered in protest, urging the international community to impose a no-fly zone over Ukraine and to support efforts to return children deported by Russia. Volodymyr Kogutyak, Vice President of the UWC for Western Europe and the Association of Ukrainians in France, emphasized the need for continued global pressure. “We strive to make our voices heard. Together we are united for justice and victory,” he said.
In Australia, the campaign was supported by the Ukrainian diaspora under the leadership of Kateryna Argyrou, chair of the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organizations and UWC board member. The Malva branch of the Ukrainian Women’s Association hosted creative workshops for young children, aiming to foster a sense of joy, belonging, and hope. “Together, we are cultivating an environment where every child feels valued, essential, and joyful,” they said.
In Canada, members of the Ukrainian Youth Association (CYM) held a joint prayer, dedicating their thoughts to children caught in the war. Meanwhile, in Budva, Montenegro, local Ukrainians shared emotional stories of children who have suffered because of the conflict, highlighting the human cost of the aggression.
In Stockholm, demonstrators gathered for a rally organized by the Nordic Ukraine Forum. The Ukrainian community expressed gratitude for Sweden’s ongoing support and reaffirmed their commitment to continue advocating for Ukraine. “We believe that Ukraine will win, and with it, the entire democratic world,” they said.
A similar event took place in London, where participants marched in solidarity with Ukrainian children. Organizers presented a letter from Ukrainian children to the UK Prime Minister, calling for continued awareness and action. “We urge all of you – do not forget the innocent souls who suffer far from home and their families,” they said.
The global rallies underscored a united call to defend the rights and future of children affected by war, reinforcing the message that the world must not turn away from their suffering.
