Mahabubnagar District Educational Officer (DEO) Praveen Kumar has directed all private schools in the district to provide fee concessions to the children of accredited journalists. The new order mandates a 100% fee waiver for one child and a 50% concession for a second child of accredited journalists.
The decision follows a formal request submitted by the MBNR Press Club Executive Committee during a meeting with the DEO on May 26. Acting on the appeal, the DEO issued the directive on Monday, aligning it with Telangana Formation Day celebrations.
Praveen Kumar said that a meeting with private school managements will be held soon to ensure the effective implementation of the order. He stressed that all private schools must comply with the guidelines.
Press Club members welcomed the move and thanked the DEO for his prompt response. Club President Narendra Chari called the initiative a meaningful step toward supporting journalists and their families, and urged schools to implement the concessions without delay.
Journalist parents have been advised to collect an official letter from the DEO’s office. This letter must include the journalist’s accreditation number and the names of their children’s schools and should be submitted to school authorities to claim the fee benefit.
Additionally, the Press Club announced plans to approach the District Intermediate Education Officer (DIEO) to request similar concessions—up to 50%—for journalists’ children studying in private junior colleges.
