The 6th annual Father’s Day car show took place at Crossroads Church, drawing community members eager to showcase their hot rods. Hosted by the West Texas Street Rod Association and West Texas Gifts of Hope, the event aimed to celebrate Father’s Day by bringing families together.
Attendees enjoyed a variety of classic and luxury cars on display, making it a special day for fathers to spend quality time with their loved ones. Todd Bridgewater reflected on the importance of cherishing family moments, saying, “Seeing all the fathers enjoying their time with their families and their children. My father has already passed away and gone on. I don’t have any children around here, but they stay in contact with me, and I appreciate that. However, most of the fathers out here have kids. Hang on to them tight because you don’t know how long you are going to live.”
For many, the car show brought back memories of working alongside their fathers to fix or remodel cars. It also served as a way to introduce younger generations to the hobby. Chuck Leckbee, President of the West Texas Street Rods, said, “Try to get your son involved with cars that I have been involved with my whole life with cars. I have two sons, and I would like to get them involved in this hobby.”
The event also acted as a fundraiser for West Texas Gifts of Hope, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting cancer patients in the Permian Basin, Trans-Pecos, Big Bend Region, and Southeastern New Mexico. Brenda Medlock, Executive Director of the organization, explained, “This is an opportunity for the community to know we are helping out people with cancer and that is regardless of the type of cancer, for all patients.”
Organizers from both West Texas Gifts of Hope and the West Texas Street Rod Association announced plans to hold the car show again next year on Father’s Day, continuing the tradition of community support and family celebration.
