Amapiano star Scotts Maphuma, whose real name is Mpho Lebajoa, has apologised for missing the “Lizha Só Festas” Children’s Day festival in Matola, Mozambique, where he was set to headline.
Lebajoa was arrested by Mozambican authorities over the weekend after failing to show up at the event he had been booked and paid for. News of his arrest emerged on Monday, June 2.
Local reporters from “Mz Magazine News” posted a video on Instagram showing Lebajoa in a police holding cell. The caption read, “Scotts Maphuma é levado à esquadra por não ter chegado a tempo de actuar,” which means “Scotts Maphuma is taken to the police station for not arriving on time to perform.”
The artist was scheduled to perform on Sunday, June 1. His absence caused disappointment among fans and parents who had been looking forward to the event.
Attendees expressed frustration, suggesting that Lebajoa’s late arrival was because he detoured to attend a royal event.
In a video shared on TikTok by a Mozambican current affairs account, Lebajoa appeared at a press conference in Mozambique. He apologised to fans and event organisers, explaining that he and his team tried to fix the situation after missing their flight.
