A TikTok video showing a businesswoman apologizing for spending “only” RM1 million on her daughter’s 11th birthday party has sparked debate online.
In the video, text reads, “Please forgive me. This is all I could afford to give you – only RM1 million. I’ve spent it all on your birthday this time.” The clip shows the child receiving expensive gifts, including an Apple iMac, a Rolex watch, and a Toyota Vellfire.
The mother adds, “I hope you, my daughter, are happy with these gifts even if they are not much.” She explains the lavish party was planned as a surprise. “During her birthday, she came up to me twice, expecting me to wish her, but I acted like I did not know anything about it,” she says, apologizing again.
The video quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions from viewers. Some joked about the amount spent. One user commented, “RM1 million only? Poor child, don’t be so stingy with them.” Another wrote, “Even if it’s RM10, it’s far more meaningful coming from a mother’s heart than spending RM1 million for the sake of content.”
Others accused the woman of showing off. “Not to be rude, but it seems like she’s trying really hard to show off,” said one netizen.
Many also questioned the practicality of the extravagant gifts, especially the Toyota Vellfire, pointing out the child is too young to drive. “She’s been gifted a car even though she’s not old enough to drive it,” one commenter noted.
The video highlights the ongoing debate about wealth, parenting, and social media display in today’s digital age.
