Russell Wilson and his family attended Sunday’s Subway Series game between the New York Yankees and the New York Mets at Yankee Stadium.
Before the game, Wilson’s children had the chance to spend time on the field during batting practice. They met some of their favorite players, including Yankees superstar outfielder Aaron Judge.
Judge surprised the kids by giving each of them a pair of his batting gloves after greeting them.
Wilson has strong connections to New York and the Yankees. He joined the New York Giants in the NFL offseason, but his baseball history includes being traded to the Yankees from the Texas Rangers in 2018. The Rangers had originally picked him in the Rule 5 Draft in 2013.
The Super Bowl-winning quarterback also played middle infield in high school. He was drafted twice by MLB teams—once in the 41st round by the Baltimore Orioles in 2007, and again in the fourth round by the Colorado Rockies in 2010.
New York acquired Wilson in exchange for cash and invited him to spring training. In 2018, he appeared in a Grapefruit League game as a pinch-hitter for Judge.
Although Wilson did not pursue a professional baseball career, he has stayed close to the Yankees organization. Sunday’s event gave him a chance to share a special moment with his family at Yankee Stadium.
