Excitement filled the Wade household when the latest issue of *Seventeen* magazine featuring Zaya Wade arrived. The young model, daughter of NBA star Dwyane Wade and actress Gabrielle Union, was celebrating a big milestone—her 18th birthday.
While her parents had planned a grand celebration, Zaya preferred something simpler. Yet, one thing both generations agreed on inspired her first big birthday gift.
Dwyane Wade has often spoken about the family’s shared love of fashion. Even their youngest daughter, Kaavia, enjoys skincare and style. Wade and Union both work with several fashion brands, and Union owns a haircare line called Flawless.
For Zaya, who made her runway debut with Miu Miu last year, Wade chose a special gift. At a family dinner, shared on Wade’s Instagram Story, he gave her a Chanel calfskin handbag valued at around \$7,500. Union was also there to celebrate. Wade captioned the post: “Someone is turning 10 tomorrow,” a nod to their youngest child.
To mark the occasion, Wade also surprised fans by releasing a teaser episode of his podcast featuring Zaya. The episode looks back on her childhood and journey into adulthood. On the podcast, Zaya shared a heartfelt message: “At the end of the day, you’re the one looking at yourself in the mirror, nobody else. So do what you need to do, not what other people need you to do.”
Despite the luxury gift, Zaya chose a low-key celebration. Unlike her parents, who enjoy hosting large parties—as they did for their 10th anniversary—Zaya preferred a simple backyard gathering with a few friends.
Gabrielle Union explained on Sherri’s YouTube Channel that Zaya wanted a quiet night roasting marshmallows by a “fake campfire.” She also revealed that Zaya’s birthday wish was to attend a Kendrick Lamar and SZA concert. Zaya even shares a close bond with SZA, who gave her phone number to call anytime she needs support.
Before her birthday, Zaya was spotted at the Grand National Tour concert at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, enjoying time with family and friends.
Despite some differences in how they celebrate, Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union have built a strong family bond with their children. Their approach to parenting, blending tradition with their children’s unique preferences, continues to inspire many.
