Florida Atlantic University (FAU) has received a \$1 million donation from an anonymous donor to fund semester-long internships in Washington, D.C., starting in the 2025-26 academic year. These internships will place students in positions at the U.S. Congress, the State Department, and other government offices and public organizations. The program aims to provide hands-on experience that could lead students toward careers in public service and diplomacy.
FAU President Adam Hasner expressed gratitude for the gift, noting his own experience as a Capitol Hill intern and the impact such opportunities have on students’ futures. “This gift unlocks incredible opportunities for our students interested in public policy and diplomacy,” he said.
Dr. Jeffrey Morton, political science professor and advisor to the program, praised the initiative as a way to enhance student education and raise the university’s profile. Morton previously worked with the donors on other projects, including the Morton Research Forum and a study abroad program.
The internship program is the first initiative under FAU’s new President’s Fund. Future plans include a student-exchange program with the Florida-Israel Institute and a distinguished speaker series featuring top policymakers.
A donor representative emphasized their commitment to life-changing student programs and expressed excitement about partnering with President Hasner to expand the President’s Fund. They also encouraged others to support the effort.
The President’s Fund aims to raise an additional \$1 million annually over the next four years, launching a new program each year.
