A Malaysian influencer has sparked controversy after sharing a video of her extravagant birthday party for her 11-year-old daughter on social media.
Farhana Zara, known as Yumyeo and a beauty and health supplements entrepreneur, hosted the lavish celebration, which was recently reported by Singapore’s Straits Times. The video shows Zara and her family descending a grand, golden staircase to the outdoor party venue, where guests sang happy birthday.
The expensive gifts given to her daughter caught particular attention. These included an Apple iMac, a Rolex watch, and a seven-seater Toyota car. Zara reportedly told her daughter, “Forgive me, mom. This is all I can spend on your birthday.” She revealed that the total cost of the party was about 1 million ringgit (approximately 320 million South Korean won).
The video has received 2.2 million views but drew mostly negative reactions. Many netizens criticized the display, saying, “This is not the right way to raise a daughter,” and “You are just showing off your wealth.” Others questioned the wisdom of giving a car to an 11-year-old who cannot drive.
Some commenters accused the event of being more about Zara herself than the child, stating, “It seems like an event for herself,” and “She’s trying to brag about how much money she spent.”
The controversy highlights ongoing debates about wealth, parenting, and social media behavior.
