Brooklyn Beckham and his wife, Nicola Peltz, reportedly learned of David Beckham’s long-anticipated knighthood not from family, but through media reports. Sources told Page Six the couple had not been informed of the honor, which is expected to be officially announced this Friday as part of King Charles III’s annual birthday honours list.
“Brooklyn is so happy for his dad as he knows it was something important to him,” a source close to the couple said. “But there was no communication, and no one from the family reached out.”
Despite their public congratulations, Brooklyn and Nicola are said to have been distant from the Beckham family for some time. Insiders say Brooklyn has not been in regular contact with his parents, David and Victoria Beckham, due to ongoing tension linked to his close relationship with his in-laws, billionaire Nelson Peltz and his wife, Claudia.
The strain reportedly surfaced when the young couple, who live in Los Angeles, skipped David’s high-profile 50th birthday celebration in London last month. They cited the upcoming Met Gala as their reason, claiming Nicola had to attend a fitting in New York ahead of the May 5 event. However, sources later revealed they were not invited to the gala.
While neither side has publicly addressed the family rift, Page Six has reached out to representatives for David, Victoria, and Brooklyn Beckham.
David Beckham, who has long desired a knighthood, was first considered for the honour in 2011 after helping London secure the 2012 Olympic Games. However, he was reportedly excluded due to links with the 2013 Ingenious tax avoidance scheme. He was later cleared of any wrongdoing, and in 2021, the firm successfully appealed the charges.
The former England football captain, who held the role for six years, is also celebrated for his charitable work. He has been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for two decades and recently received the World Economic Forum’s Crystal Award for his efforts to protect children’s rights.
With the knighthood, David’s wife, Victoria Beckham, will assume the formal title of “Lady Victoria.” She received an OBE in 2017 for her work in fashion and philanthropy, while David was awarded the same honour in 2003.
David has remained close to the royal family, particularly Prince William, the former president of the Football Association. His friendship with King Charles has also deepened in recent years, with the two even bonding over beekeeping. The Beckhams attended a Qatari state banquet at Buckingham Palace in December and dined with the King and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House in February, alongside other notable guests such as Dame Helen Mirren and Stanley Tucci.
The couple met with King Charles again last month at the Chelsea Flower Show, where the monarch asked if David had received his 50th birthday gift.
“It was incredible,” Beckham replied. “Thank you, it was very kind.”
