Stonehill College has received a historic \$15 million gift from alumni Tom and Kathleen Bogan to launch a fundraising campaign for a new ice hockey and basketball arena. In honor of their generosity, the facility will be named the Tom & Kathleen Bogan Arena.
“This is the largest donation in the college’s history,” said Rev. John Denning, C.S.C., president of Stonehill College. “It will transform Stonehill by expanding our campus, boosting community spirit, and providing state-of-the-art spaces for our Division I teams. Tom has been a loyal alumnus and, together with Kathleen, continually supports Stonehill’s mission and future.”
The Bogans have been long-time supporters of Stonehill. In 2023, they established the Tom ’72 and Kathleen Bogan Endowed Scholarship. They have also contributed to the Stonehill College Fund, athletics, and the Leo J. Meehan School of Business. In 2021, the couple was honored with the naming of Thomas and Kathleen Bogan Hall, a residence primarily for seniors. Tom Bogan, a Stonehill trustee and 2019 Outstanding Alumnus Award recipient, is recognized for his achievements in the software industry and his contributions to the college.
Tom and Kathleen Bogan said in a joint statement, “The arena will enhance the student experience and strengthen Stonehill’s connection with local communities who will have access to the facility. Supporting Stonehill’s mission of educating hearts and minds through this new addition to campus is truly exciting.”
Tom Bogan majored in accounting at Stonehill and has spent most of his career as an executive and investor in the software industry. He has held leadership roles at several companies, including CEO and board member positions at Citrix Systems, Rational Software, Apptio, AspenTech, Avatar Technologies, PTC, Rally Software, and Adaptive Insights. After Adaptive Insights was acquired by Workday in 2018, he served as vice chairman at Workday until January 2022. Currently, he sits on the boards of public companies Workday, CS Disco, and Catapult Sports, as well as private companies Reltio and Extensiv.
The new Tom & Kathleen Bogan Arena is a key part of Stonehill’s strategic plan for 2026-2030. The 120,000-square-foot facility will be built on Washington Street, expanding the west side of campus. It will feature separate basketball and ice hockey arenas, each seating around 2,500 spectators, along with premium hospitality and viewing areas.
Director of Athletics Dean O’Keefe said, “We are grateful to the Bogans for their leadership. The arena will shine a spotlight on Stonehill through NCAA Division I events and live broadcasts, benefiting our student-athletes and community in many ways.”
The facility will include advanced locker rooms, film viewing rooms, training centers, and academic support spaces to aid student-athletes. The estimated total cost is \$65 million and will be funded by donations and college investments.
Doug Smith, vice president for advancement, said, “We thank Tom and Kathleen for making this arena part of their legacy. Their gift will have a major impact on Stonehill’s athletic programs and will elevate the entire campus community.”
