According to a company statement, the misleading posts are not affiliated with The MarketPlace in any way. The fraudulent content is believed to be designed to trick users into clicking on fake links, which may lead to phishing websites or attempt to collect personal and financial information.
The company has taken steps to have the scam posts removed and has issued public alerts through its official social media platforms. It urged residents to verify the authenticity of any online promotions before engaging with them or sharing personal data.
All legitimate promotions from The MarketPlace are communicated exclusively through official channels. The company emphasized that it does not request credit card numbers, banking details, or other sensitive information via social media.
The incident has been reported to the Bermuda Police Service’s Financial Crimes and Fraud Unit. Anyone who believes they have been targeted by the scam is advised to report the matter to the police.
