A mother from Cornwall has spoken out about her heartbreak after £100 was allegedly stolen during her son’s birthday party in Newquay on Sunday.
Natalie Lomax said her son, Stanley, was devastated when the birthday money, intended for a new bike, went missing during the event at a local activity venue. She believes the theft occurred between 3pm and 3:30pm, while she briefly stepped out of the party room to assist a child who had been sick.
“There were only a few guests and staff members left in the venue after 3pm, and the main area had closed by then,” Natalie explained. “When I returned to the party room, I found that the money had been taken from the gift bag, but Stanley’s mobile phone was still there.”
While waiting for a response from the venue, Natalie has been touched by the outpouring of support from the community.
“Newquay has been incredibly supportive, and we’re so grateful. Some people have even offered to buy Stanley the bike he wanted,” she said. “Kelly Hill from the Tavern has promised to purchase the bike using funds raised at the Tav Fest event on Saturday.”
Additionally, donations from kind-hearted individuals have poured in through a GoFundMe page, which was initially set up to replace the stolen money. Natalie says the total amount raised has now exceeded their original target.
