EL PASO, Texas — A local high school student and sports podcaster is inspiring young athletes by donating new sports equipment to Lamar Elementary School students.
Lane Frank, a student at Coronado High School and founder of the Schoolyard Sports podcast, said he wanted to help underserved children in El Paso who lack access to quality sports gear.
“I’m very passionate about sports and I know a lot of underserved kids here at El Paso that don’t have access to new sports equipment,” Frank said. “To be able to provide that for them, it’s great.”
The donation included footballs, basketballs, and soccer balls, which brought smiles to the children’s faces.
“I think sports give confidence. I’m so happy to see all the happy faces on these kids,” Frank added. “You give them their balls and they go back and they’re playing with them. I love to see it.”
Frank chose Lamar Elementary because his great-grandmother was a nurse there, making the school close to his heart.
“Lamar holds a very special place in my heart, so I really wanted to give back to the community here,” he said.
Looking ahead, Frank hopes this donation will have a lasting impact.
“I really hope they remember this day just because I’m so glad to give balls to these kids. I really hope they have fun with this for the rest of their life,” he said. “I hope to do this again at different schools. Very excited about it.”
