The Sedona International Film Festival will present a special 45th anniversary screening of The Elephant Man on May 31 and June 1 at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre in Sedona, Arizona.
This limited engagement showcases a newly restored 4K version of the acclaimed 1980 film, created from the original camera negative under the supervision of director David Lynch. The screening marks the beginning of a summer-long tribute to Lynch’s work.
Starring Anthony Hopkins, John Hurt, and Anne Bancroft, The Elephant Man earned nine Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director. The film tells the story of Dr. Frederick Treves (Hopkins), who discovers John Merrick (Hurt), a severely disfigured man working in a traveling sideshow. As Treves brings Merrick into his home, he learns that beneath Merrick’s appearance lies a deeply intelligent and sensitive man. Merrick’s grace and humanity ultimately challenge the prejudices of Victorian society.
