Wellfield School in Wingate received a Ted Harrison painting from the Ted Harrison Museum in Canada to mark its 95th anniversary.
Ted Harrison, a former pupil born in Wingate in 1926, studied at Hartlepool College of Art before moving to Canada, where he became a famous artist.
Headteacher Louise Colquhoun said the painting is more than art; it connects the school’s past and present. She added, “We are deeply honoured to receive this gift and proud to share this moment with Ted Harrison’s family, who remain part of our school community.”
The unveiling ceremony included a speech by Linda Rodham, chief executive of New College Durham Academies Trust, and attendance by members of Ted Harrison’s local family.
