A Florida family recently pulled off a memorable birthday celebration for their son, transforming his love for a grocery store into the perfect party theme.
Jenni and Sean Glester organized a Trader Joe’s-themed fourth birthday party for their son, Joey, whose favorite activity is accompanying his mother on shopping trips to the store. Joey enjoys pushing the child-sized red cart, selecting produce, and trying new snacks. Inspired by his enthusiasm, the Glesters spent nearly a year planning a party that would reflect his unique interest.
The event, attended by more than 20 parents and children, featured a variety of creative elements that brought Trader Joe’s to life. The family repurposed months’ worth of packaging from their favorite Trader Joe’s products to decorate the party and build a pretend shopping area. Guests were welcomed with a flower bouquet-making station, inspired by the store’s floral section and stocked with blooms from Kings Wholesale Florist. Children also played in a custom bounce house dubbed “Trader Joey’s.”
The food and drinks at the party were sourced entirely from Trader Joe’s. The menu included Joey’s favorite items such as Diner Mac ‘N Cheese, meatballs, fruits, vegetables, mini chocolate chip cookies, cheese, and crackers. Adults enjoyed a selection of Trader Joe’s wine and beer, including Two Buck Chuck, Boatswaine IPA, and Tarogino Frizzante Sparkling Orange Wine. Party favors featured snack items like fruit leather and seasonal animal crackers.
Even the birthday cake stayed true to the theme. The Glesters used six Strawberry Lemon Mini Sheet Cakes, layering them with lemon curd and topping them with fresh fruit. According to Jenni, the kids especially enjoyed the mac and cheese and meatballs.
The party theme, while playful, held deeper meaning for the family. Joey’s name is a tribute to Sean’s late father, Joe, and Jenni’s late mother, Joanne. The Trader Joe’s theme became a symbolic way to honor both relatives while celebrating their son’s joy.
“Joeyboy is so fun-loving,” Sean said. “He’s always up for his mom’s ideas, and he had the best time surrounded by friends and family.”
With the success of Joey’s fourth birthday behind them, the Glesters are already brainstorming for next year’s celebration.
