The Christian Reformed Church’s annual general assembly, Synod 2025, is currently meeting from June 13 to 19 at Redeemer University in Ancaster, Ontario. During the event, the church honored several important anniversaries.
One highlight was the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Kelloggsville CRC in Kentwood, Michigan. A commemorative plaque was presented to mark this milestone. Synod also recognized more than 60 pastors and over 30 congregations celebrating milestone anniversaries across the Christian Reformed Church in North America (CRCNA). Zachary King, the CRCNA’s general secretary, expressed gratitude, saying, “We wish Kelloggsville and all of our churches celebrating anniversaries the best and give thanks to the Lord because his love endures forever.”
The assembly also acknowledged the service of retiring members from the Historical Committee, Tony Maan and Herman De Vries, and thanked continuing curator William Katerberg, along with Heritage Hall staff, student workers, and volunteers.
In addition to recent milestones, Synod 2025 marked the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicea, which produced the Nicene Creed. The assembly instructed the Office of the General Secretary to find resources and recommend ways for churches and regional bodies to commemorate and teach the creed. The Nicene Creed was featured in worship during Sunday night’s session.
Redeemer University, the event’s host, will hold a conference titled “Defending Christ: Celebrating 1700 Years of Nicaea” in October to further explore the significance of this historic council.
