Chivayo praised veteran journalist Barwe for his long and dedicated service to Zimbabwe’s media.
“You have reported on Zimbabwe’s history and delivered the news and current affairs professionally every day,” Chivayo said.
He added that Barwe has kept the nation informed and inspired through all the changes and challenges the country has faced.
“You have stayed loyal, hardworking, and dedicated. You deliver news accurately and show great pride in being Zimbabwean,” Chivayo said.
Throughout his career, Barwe faced many difficulties, including criticism and threats. Yet, he rose from a junior reporter to become a celebrated chief correspondent.
“You have shown deep patriotism by sharing Zimbabwe’s story locally and internationally,” Chivayo noted.
Chivayo recalled watching Barwe on TV in the 1980s, when broadcasts were still in black and white. He fondly remembered waiting for Barwe’s signature sign-off on ZBC TV News.
“You became famous for your unique style of reporting in communities,” he said. “Everyone would imitate your catchy sign-off: ‘Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrueben Barwee.’”
Barwe is a veteran journalist who has worked for the state broadcaster ZBC as chief correspondent and diplomatic correspondent. He has also traveled widely around the world during his career.
