On the professional front, Punit Malhotra began his career as an assistant director on films like Karan Johar’s Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Hansal Mehta’s Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai?, and Nikhil Advani’s Kal Ho Naa Ho. He made his directorial debut with I Hate Luv Storys, which he also wrote. His second film, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, starred Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan. In 2019, he directed Student of the Year 2, featuring Tiger Shroff, Tara Sutaria, and Ananya Pandey.
Punit comes from a family with strong ties to the film industry. His cousins include filmmakers Suneel and Dharmesh Darshan, and his father’s first cousin is the renowned director David Dhawan. Famous designer Manish Malhotra, who worked as the costume designer on Punit’s debut film, is also part of his extended family.
