Madonna marked a peaceful Mother’s Day weekend, surrounded by five of her six children. On May 12, the 66-year-old singer shared a series of Instagram photos from the weekend, highlighting moments with her kids, along with individual photos taken over the years.
“I spent Mother’s Day weekend with 5 of my 6 children,” Madonna wrote. “Sunshine, laughter, horseback riding, soccer, and the sound of music!” She joked, “The best gift they gave me was the gift of not arguing and being loving to one another. When you raise children to be unique and opinionated, you also create your own debate team!”
She went on to reflect on motherhood, saying, “Motherhood could never be described with a few words. Nothing can prepare you. Happy Mother’s Day to all the women out there doing the heavy lifting.”
Madonna’s children include Lourdes, 28, whom she shares with fitness trainer Carlos Leon, and Rocco, 24, from her marriage to director Guy Ritchie. She also adopted twin daughters Stella and Estere, 12, daughter Mercy, 19, and son David, 19.
The singer shared her thoughts on her decision to adopt, saying, “Sometimes I would just close my eyes and think, ‘Why isn’t my kitchen filled with dancing children?’ There are so many children that need a home. What am I waiting for? Just do it.”
In a January 2023 interview with Vanity Fair, Madonna opened up about the challenges of motherhood. She called it “the most difficult, the hardest battle,” adding that balancing her career and raising children is an ongoing struggle. “Having children and raising them is a work of art,” she said. “It requires a lot of time, and it’s exhausting because there is never rest.”
Madonna also recently shared her Easter celebrations on Instagram. She posted pictures of herself and her twin daughters in chic black outfits, along with some fun moments spent watching a soccer match. She also posted photos from a London concert featuring “an incredible artist,” Self Esteem.
