The Nevada Surplus Lines Foundation has generously donated \$735,000 to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) to support the university’s efforts to become a leading hub for insurance and risk management on the West Coast and across the nation. This significant gift will fund scholarships for the first cohort of students enrolled in a new Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) program specializing in Insurance and Risk Management. The program is set to be presented for approval to the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Board of Regents in June.
The new degree program will build upon UNLV’s existing strengths, particularly the successful Kerestesi Center for Insurance and Risk Management. This center has long been recognized as a key academic unit dedicated to advancing education and research in the insurance industry. With the introduction of the BSBA program, UNLV aims to attract more students interested in pursuing careers in insurance and risk management, equipping them with the skills needed to meet the growing demands of the industry.
This generous donation not only reflects the industry’s confidence in UNLV’s educational capabilities but also provides critical resources to expand the program and enhance the quality of education offered. As the insurance and risk management sectors continue to grow rapidly, UNLV plans to use this funding to further develop its curriculum and training programs. The university is committed to becoming a premier center for insurance education on the West Coast and to establishing itself as a national leader in preparing skilled professionals for the industry.
