Canadian singer Nelly Furtado and Australian DJ-producer Dom Dolla quickly developed mutual respect after collaborating on the 2023 single “Eat Your Man,” Furtado’s first release in six years. The pair have since performed together at festivals like Beyond the Valley and Lollapalooza.
Furtado told Rolling Stone AU/NZ that she was drawn to Dolla’s music within seconds of hearing it. She praised his “calculated restraint” and “pure soul,” especially his distinctive approach to bass. She added that his passion for DJing and dance music culture is genuine and inspiring. “He’s a happy guy with incredibly positive energy,” she said. “Nights watching Dom’s sets have become some of my favourite nights ever.”
Dolla, a longtime fan of Furtado, said her music influenced his style. When Furtado invited him to help with her new album, they connected quickly and worked together in Philadelphia. Their collaboration produced “Eat Your Man,” a track paying tribute to Furtado’s earlier hits.
Furtado has had multiple Billboard Hot 100 hits, including three number ones: “Promiscuous,” “Say It Right,” and “Give It to Me,” with Justin Timberlake and Timbaland.
Currently, Dolla is busy with festivals, residencies in Ibiza and Las Vegas, and will perform his first stadium show in Australia this December. Furtado released her seventh album, *7*, last year and is touring UK and Europe festivals. She is also working on reimagined versions of her old and new songs with various DJs.
The June-August 2025 issue of Rolling Stone AU/NZ, featuring Dom Dolla on the cover, is now available.
