In Miami’s Overtown neighborhood, hope is hard to come by but never stops trying. For years, former NBA star Alonzo Mourning has dedicated himself to creating a lasting impact beyond the basketball courts. He helped build the Overtown Youth Center (OYC), a nonprofit that offers local kids a safe space where they can be heard and supported. The center’s work continues steadily, but even strong foundations sometimes need extra help.
Recently, that help came from an unexpected but meaningful source. Rita Case, president and CEO of Rick Case Automotive Group, stepped in with a generous gift. Case’s family-owned business, founded in 1962 in Akron, Ohio, has grown into a major force in the car dealership industry and philanthropy, with a \$200 million portfolio under her leadership.
Case donated a 2024 Chevy Silverado to OYC to help staff transport supplies across the center’s large 56,000-square-foot campus. While it might seem like a small act compared to her business empire, it carries significant purpose. “I am inspired by OYC’s mission and the positive impact they have on the youth and community of this Miami neighborhood,” Case said. “It is my pleasure to hand these keys to Alonzo, and I hope this truck helps the center run more efficiently.”
The Overtown Youth Center was founded in 2003 by Mourning and developer Martin Z. Margulies as a safe place for the neighborhood’s underserved youth. With support from donors like Case, its mission grows stronger every day. In these challenging philanthropic times, contributions like this are more than gifts—they are investments in our mission.”
