Mother’s Day, observed annually on the second Sunday of May, honors mothers and mother figures. This year, South African celebrities joined the celebration, highlighting their own journeys in motherhood and paying tribute to their moms.
DJ, entrepreneur, and mother DJ Zinhle celebrated the day with her two daughters, Kairo and Asante, at her Era’s Mother’s Day event.
Radio host, actress, and musician Nandi Madida marked the occasion by launching her podcast, The Motherhood Network. The platform aims to share honest and unfiltered stories from moms to moms. Madida’s first guest was television personality and businesswoman Basetsana Kumalo. Together, they discussed the importance of being a mother first and how they hope their children remember them—as happy, kind, loving, peaceful, graceful, courageous, brave, and strong.
Madida shared a heartfelt message: “Today we celebrate you—the strength in your hugs, the wisdom in your words, and the endless love you give so freely. You are the heart of every home, the calm in every storm, and the magic behind many beautiful moments. Happy Mother’s Day! Thank you for everything you are and everything you do. You are deeply loved and appreciated.”
Actress and presenter Zola Nombona posted pictures with her son, reflecting on the everyday challenges of motherhood. “From chauffeuring to soccer practice to negotiating bedtime like a pro, motherhood deserves a trophy—and maybe a nap,” she wrote. “Shoutout to all the moms showing up with love, snacks, and style. Happy Mother’s Day from your favorite soccer mom!”
