NASCAR veteran Dale Earnhardt Jr. spent this year’s Father’s Day away from home, working in Mexico as part of the broadcast team for the first-ever points-paying Cup Series race in the country. While he was on duty with Amazon Prime’s NASCAR coverage, his wife, Amy Earnhardt, and their daughters, Isla and Nicole, remained in the U.S., waiting to celebrate the occasion.
With Amazon Prime’s limited five-race NASCAR deal, Earnhardt could not skip the assignment. However, the delay didn’t stop the family from honoring the day. During a new episode of their podcast Bless Your Heart, Amy shared how they shifted their Father’s Day celebration to the following Tuesday.
She explained that the girls had prepared gifts and were eager to give them to their father once he returned. The celebration began with the children presenting their gifts in the morning, followed by a family lunch at a local Mexican restaurant. Amy joked that Dale ordered a margarita “the size of her head,” bringing a light-hearted moment to the day.
Amy described the rest of the celebration as low-key, in line with her husband’s preferences. “He doesn’t like to make a big deal out of holidays,” she noted, adding that the simple, relaxed day was exactly what he enjoyed.
Among the gifts, Earnhardt received a Bluetooth speaker, a practical item he said he’s always happy to have more of. “A man can never have too many of those,” he remarked, sharing his excitement over the thoughtful present. He already owns two speakers on his boat; now, the new addition makes it three.
Despite being away from his own family, Earnhardt took a moment on social media to remember his father, the legendary Dale Earnhardt Sr., writing, “Happy Father’s Day. Pretty cool club to be a part of. Cheers to all the dads and the happiness that it brings.”
The Earnhardts’ belated celebration serves as a reminder that meaningful moments don’t always have to fall on the exact date—they simply have to be shared with the people who matter most.
