A video from Chhattisgarh’s Balrampur district has gone viral, showing the wife of a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) celebrating her birthday on the bonnet of a car equipped with a blue beacon. The footage quickly sparked outrage and led to an FIR being filed against the vehicle’s driver, though the driver has not been named.
The video captures the woman sitting on the bonnet of an XUV 700, which is reportedly the DSP’s car, while others are seen dangerously leaning out of the vehicle’s windows and sunroof. The incident occurred near a hotel in Ambikapur, and it has raised serious concerns about the misuse of official symbols and public safety. The woman is seen cutting a birthday cake placed on the car’s bonnet, with others around her cheering.
The Congress party in Chhattisgarh condemned the incident, criticizing it as an example of irresponsible behavior from those in positions of power. In response to the video’s widespread circulation, the Saragwan police launched an investigation and confirmed the location of the incident.
An FIR was filed against the driver for violating traffic laws under several sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, including Sections 177, 184, and 281. These sections outline penalties for minor violations, reckless driving, and endangering public safety. The police have stated that further action will be taken depending on the severity of the violations captured in the video.
The incident has become a topic of widespread discussion, with many expressing concern about the disregard for public safety and the misuse of official symbols.
