On Tuesday evening, golf and basketball came together when two-time Major winner Bubba Watson attended the Indiana Fever’s game against the Atlanta Dream.
Watson, who captains the RangeGoats Golf Club, not only watched the match but also met Indiana Fever’s star player, Caitlin Clark, before the game. He surprised her with a special gift: a signed Ping G440 driver in his custom pink and black design, which he has used on the golf course since 2012.
In a video shared on Indiana Fever’s social media, Watson called meeting the 23-year-old Clark “a dream come true.” The two posed for photos before tip-off.
Watson’s connection to the WNBA is personal. His wife Angie is a former WNBA player who played for the Charlotte Sting after graduating from the University of Georgia, where she met Watson.
Clark is also an avid golfer. She spent time on the golf course during the off-season and played alongside stars like Nelly Korda and Annika Sorenstam at the Annika Driven by Gainbridge Pro-Am last November. Clark, who is around a 16-handicap golfer, also competed in the PGA Tour’s John Deere Classic Pro-Am in 2023, drawing large crowds.
Watson’s support of women’s sports extends beyond the WNBA. He volunteered as part of Team USA’s backroom staff at the 2021 Solheim Cup and regularly attends the Augusta National Women’s Amateur before The Masters.
His daughter Dakota is also a passionate golfer and has played alongside him at The Masters Par 3 Contest.
