Taguig City honored a 102-year-old grandmother, Urbana Nieva, with a P100,000 birthday cash gift. Mayor Lani Cayetano and Councilor Raul Aquino personally presented the check to Nieva, who was born in 1923 in Barangay Pembo.
Mayor Cayetano shared on Facebook her amazement that Nieva could still sing “Happy Birthday” to herself at 102, calling it a true blessing.
Through the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), all centenarians in Taguig receive P100,000 upon turning 100 years old. They continue to receive the same amount annually for as long as they live.
Other senior citizens in Taguig also receive birthday cash gifts ranging from P3,000 to P10,000 based on their age group.
In addition, the city provides free medicine, home nursing services, and assistive devices such as wheelchairs, canes, and hearing aids.
Senior citizens can also access free facilities and services at the Center for the Elderly in Barangay North Signal Village. These include a clinic, massage room, therapy pool, theater, and recreational areas.
