E-commerce order volumes in the UK and worldwide increased as Father’s Day 2025 approached, showing an 18% year-on-year (YOY) growth, according to data from delivery management platform Scurri.
During the week leading up to Father’s Day (June 9-14), the highest order numbers were recorded on Wednesday, with a 22% increase YOY, and on Saturday, which saw a 20% rise. This pattern reflects shoppers’ split between planned mid-week purchases and last-minute gift buying. However, order volume fell 14% on Friday compared to last year, likely due to earlier shopping or customers aiming to meet delivery deadlines.
Fast delivery options were very popular ahead of the holiday. Nearly 45% of online orders placed in the week before Father’s Day were sent using an ‘Express Parcel with Signature’ service. This shows that shoppers wanted fast and guaranteed delivery. Additionally, 16% of orders were delivered via Next Day service, and 6% opted for Sunday delivery. Overall, demand for faster delivery services grew significantly compared to 2024.
Research from GlobalData showed that 45% of UK consumers planned to celebrate Father’s Day this year. Although this is 2% lower than in 2024, spending around the occasion is expected to rise by 1.8%, reaching £1.12 billion.
Fragrance remains a popular gift choice. The Perfume Shop, the UK’s largest specialist perfume retailer, reported record sales of 248,142 bottles in the two weeks before Father’s Day, a 10% increase YOY. This means about 12 bottles were sold every minute during that period.
Customers shopped both in stores and online, with 69% of sales happening in physical shops (up 9% YOY) and 31% online (up 13% YOY). Shoppers also spent more on average, with the typical purchase rising by 2% to £66.99, slightly higher than GlobalData’s estimate.
Popular fragrances included Boss Bottled, Rabanne Invictus Victory, YSL Myslf, and Dior Sauvage. New launches like Boss Bottled Citrus and Montblanc Explorer Extreme also performed well.
Regionally, Northern Ireland saw the biggest sales increase at 12.6%, followed by Scotland with an 11.2% rise.
Personalized gifts were also in demand. The Perfume Shop sold over 1,488 engraved bottles and 18,214 personalized ribbons during the two weeks leading up to Father’s Day, showing shoppers’ preference for unique and thoughtful presents.
