Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) has received a significant donation from the Jim & Tanya Mitschke Family of Owasso, marking another chapter in the Mitschke family’s long-standing support for the university.
Jim Mitschke, a 1964 SWOSU alumnus, is a decorated veteran who served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. As the captain of an AH-1 Cobra Gunship, Mitschke earned the Silver Star and several other military honors for his service. His wife, Tanya, and their children have continued to contribute to the university over the years, solidifying the Mitschke family as dedicated benefactors.
The couple’s two children, James and Sarah, are both successful professionals. James, a petroleum engineer, resides in the Dallas area with his wife, Casey, and their two young sons. Sarah works for a national healthcare consulting firm in Denver.
The Mitschkes’ latest donation will help establish the Mitschke Family Endowed Scholarship Fund at SWOSU. This fund will support students involved in the SWOSU Football program, a cause close to Jim Mitschke’s heart. He was a member of the SWOSU Football team during his college years and was honored to serve as team co-captain during his senior season.
Dr. Diana R. Lovell, SWOSU President, expressed her gratitude for the donation, stating, “We are deeply grateful to the Mitschke Family for this wonderful gift. The scholarships that we will be able to provide to SWOSU Football thanks to the kindness of the Mitschke will benefit our student-athletes immensely.
